Involve Your Wedding Guests
How do I involve my wedding guests in my ceremony?
Involving your wedding guests will create an unforgettable atmosphere
Including guests and loved ones in your wedding ceremony is a great way to infuse energy, engagement and fun into your wedding day from the very start.
This is made so much easier, and in fact is encouraged, when you hire a wedding Celebrant to lead your ceremony.
Independent Celebrants offer bespoke ceremony scripting and design, meaning that nothing really is off the table.
However, if you're like any bride I have ever met, with the idea of unlimited possibilities, also comes… OVERWHELM.
I know you know it well. Having too much choice is almost as bad as having hardly any.
But, as your resident creative Celebrant who loves love and joy…
let me give you some ways to include your guests that might be the perfect fit for you - or will at least get some ideas flowing.
Let’s get stuck in…
Ring Warming
This is a gorgeous, low key way to involve every single guest at your wedding.
Before the rings are exchanged, they are sent around the guests to be "warmed up" by everyone's love, well wishes and positive vibes for you both. Cute, right?!
The rings can be popped into a ring box for this, though my personal preference because I'm sentimental, is to attach them (securely!) to an item or object that holds some significance to you both, like a pet's collar for example.
Interactive Symbolic Elements
There are many symbolic elements (far more than I can cover in this blog post!) that can be included in your ceremony and that can involve some of your guests.
One of the options that is very popular is hand fasting. This is a symbolic element where guests place ribbons across the couples joined hands (each colour symbolising a different meaning) which is then used for the couple to visually "tie the knot".
This is a lovely symbolic element that many couples use because it can incorporate some of their special guests, as well as adding a sentimental touch by, for example, create a ribbon from clothing of a loved one who perhaps has passed away or can't be with you.
Not to mention, it's a lovely visual element for guests to enjoy, as well as providing great photo opportunities for your wedding pictures too.
Sing-A-Long
What raises everyone's vibe, and creates an immediate feel good atmosphere better than a great song?!
You don't only need to use music as background ambience, you can decide to include a sing-a-long as part of your ceremony too.
I think at first it can sound a bit bonkers - but it's very normal in a church wedding for their to be communal hymns sang - but here you get to choose whatever you want.
Just make sure it is a relatively well known song (not that b-side track from an artist nobody else has heard of!), and you can provide the lyrics in your order of service. Et voila, the perfect inclusive, vibe raising addition to your big day.
Mr & Mrs Quiz
Ok if you thought the Sing-A-Long suggestion was a bit bonkers - buckle up.
I know Mr & Mrs quizzes are often seen as the things you organise for the stag and hen do's, but who says they can't be included as part of your ceremony instead?
It can be a really funny way to infuse laughter and a bit of competition into the ceremony, to see who knows the two of you best.
You can devise what questions are going to be asked with your Celebrant during the script writing preparation, and provide the guests with some sort of paddle to play along.
Why I love these suggestions
I particularly love all of the above suggestions because they are fun, impactful and most of all, they’re really cost effective.
Whilst putting on a wedding can cost a lot, don't overlook the simple ways to create the atmosphere that you want.
Remember, it's your day, your way. There are literally no rules.
